Add an image
- From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
- Next to Emporium, click Customize.
- Under the Image gallery section, click Add Image.
- Under Image, click Select image.
- Select the image to display, or upload a new image, and click Select.
- Under Aspect ratio, select an option:
- 2:1 (landscape)

- 1:2 (portrait)
The same aspect ratio is maintained across both mobile and desktop, so you don’t have to worry about art direction.
Configure the layout of the image gallery
The image gallery is a grid of columns and rows. There are 2 columns on mobile, and 3, 4 or 5 columns on desktop (depending on your selection). There are as many rows as are required to fit all the images.
An image’s Aspect ratio setting determines how many columns and rows it takes up.
Aspect ratio | Number of columns | Number of rows |
2:1 | 2 | 1 |
1:1 | 1 | 1 |
1:2 | 1 | 2 |
- From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
- Next to Emporium, click Customize.
- Click the Image gallery section.
- Under Number of columns (desktop), select an option.
There are always 2 columns on mobile.
Rearrange images
Image order is first controlled by block order, but images will try to take up space in the grid such that there are no rows left half-full. If your chosen block order causes a half-full row, images are rearranged automatically so that the row is filled.
- From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
- Next to Emporium, click Customize.
- Under the Image gallery section, click and drag the icon next to a block to change its order.
- Click Save.
